Quick Weekend Guide to Seattle

Weekend Guide to Seattle

Sight Seeing

Pike Place Market

Pike Place Market

Start your morning at Pike Place Market.  The market opens at 6:30, so getting there early ensures some time and photos without swarms of tourists, as well as being able to not wait on huge lines.  The market is awesome, right on the water, selling goods from local vendors anywhere from beautiful floral arrangements, to intricate belt buckles, to beef jerky from a local farmer (definitely try the samples, they will hook you).  If you are a coffee fan, the original Starbucks is also located right on this road.  The whole area is cute, so spend a few hours and check out the small roads and shops surrounding the area.

Kerry Park:

Head up to Kerry Park. I say up because… be prepared for that uphill walk.  Kerry Park itself, is cute, but don’t expect much of a “park.” Instead, expect beautiful unobstructed skyline views.  Kerry Park puts you above the city, allowing you to see across the water, having a lovely view of the mountains on a clear day.

Alki Point:

Little bit of a drive West from the city center, but very worth it.  Beach neighborhood with slightly more relaxed vibes than the city.  I drove here for sunset, which gives you a lovely view over the Puget Sound.  I also love the view that Alki beach gives you of the skyline.  I’m big into taking a step back from the city and finding the overall view, this is definitely a great one!

Snoqualmie Falls:

After spending the morning in the city head East for some fresh air and stunning natural beauty to Snoqualmie Falls.  No, this one is not in the city, but a quick drive outside.  Start at the top of the waterfall and follow the path down all the way to the boardwalk and river views.  The boardwalk path will bring you all the way down to see the waterfall from the ground up. Relatively easy trail for some light hiking- but definitely wear some sneakers! The views are stunning, so spend a few hours enjoying the natural beauty that Washington has to offer!

Food:

Bacco:

A café around the corner from Pike Place, serving up some delicious Eggs Benedict.  A must try is definitely the Dungeness Crab Eggs Benedict. Secondly, the Lox & Asparagus egg sandwich is delectable.  You’re in Seattle- EAT SEAFOOD.  Also, their fresh juice is a MUST.  Genova was my choice (pineapple, orange and pear), made fresh upon order and worth every penny.  Arrive early, the line can go out the door!

Le Panier:

Le Panier is great for a quick cappuccino while walking around near Pike Place Market.  They do a nice brie and jam baguette as well (cheese is never a bad idea).

Piroshky Piroshky Bakery:

Grab a pastry here, personal favorite was the marzipan roll.  You will soon learn, marzipan is my kryptonite.  Also located right across from Pike Place Market, get here early before the lines starts!

The Walrus and the Carpenter:

Any Disney fans here? Yes- think “Alice in Wonderland,” don’t worry it took me a minute too.  The Walrus and the Carpenter is slightly hidden, tucked away in the back of the building, but don’t let its discreetness fool you. This place is AMAZING and a must do if you are in Seattle. Seriously.  We sat at the bar which was lovely being able to chat to the staff, who clearly seem to have quite the knowledge of their products and food in general.  Quick run through of what I dabbled with- oysters, bread and butter (yes order this), salmon turnip crème fraiche, house made mortadella (good but I would try something else next time round), cheese and jam, and lastly dates and bread pudding for dessert.  To comment on the oysters- I like oysters, but do not love them the way most people seem to.  Having said that, I had never had oysters from the Pacific Ocean, and these are NOT to be missed by any means.  Also, never skip dessert.
