San Francisco Weekend Guide

You have a weekend in San Francisco? Here’s what to do with your three days!

California, one of my favorite states to visit, I don’t think I will ever grow tired of such a diverse place.  I took my first trip to the San Francisco area, and I fell in LOVE.  San Francisco is an amazing city with so much to offer to everyone. With just a long weekend visit- I tried to pack in as much as possible, which is definitely not an easy task in a city that has so much to offer.  Here are my suggestions on how to have a packed weekend, and see some of the major sites! It is worth stating, if you see there is no fog switch that day to get your best view of the Golden Gate, as sometimes you might have mostly foggy days depending on the time of year.

Day 1:  I would stick to the city for at least one day and try and fit everything in the one area in.  Must sees include:

Fisherman’s Wharf

Ferry building- and you will have a nice view of the bay bridge!

Take a trolley!

China Town

Lombard Street

Golden Gate Bridge- walk/ drive across!

Bakers Beach- Great view of the Gold Gate Bridge!

Ghirardelli- just if you need a quick sugar boost or an ice cream to cool down (this is the ORIGINAL shop)

Painted ladies- for me this is nearly as iconic as the Golden Gate!

Nob hill for dinner- San Francisco has amazing food, and I should do a whole post on that, but if you want a bit of an entertaining experience try the Tonga Room!

TIPS:

No need for a car as it becomes frustrating to park it and move it around, but be prepared to HIKE uphill, but really all part of the experience.

Day 2: Time to get out of the city – the greater San Francisco area is gorgeous so you MUST.

Muir woods- do a hike- I would start really early in the morning as this can be long depending on your hike.

In & Out- grad lunch as a reward post hike (if you are from a state without in and out- this is GOLD)

Napa/ Sonoma- head to a vineyard, do a tasting and dinner.

TIP:

You must time this correctly with the vineyards you want to visit, from there incorporate a drive to the great red woods as they are so beautiful and a staple of northern California.

Day 3: Personally, I need to see that California coast whenever I am in the area.  Since this drive is not in my normal life, I really enjoy it.

Devils Slide- scenic trail, great views and great place to watch the sunset.

Half Moon Bay- I would personally make that my destination and drive the coast to there.  I will never get over the beauty of the coastal part of California.

Sam’s Chowder House- A quintessential Half Moon Bay experience. Get some seafood while enjoying lunch on the water!
