CHRISTMAS IN LONDON: how to get into the spirit of the season
Guys, as it is almost time for the BIG DAY, I have been much focusing on getting into the Christmas spirit. Come December 1, I pretty much have Christmas music buzzing in my head 24/7. How many times is too many times to listen to ‘Last Christmas’?
Luckily, London is one of the most magical places comes the Christmas season. So where do I go to find these magical Christmas places you might wonder?
1. Ice Skating at the Natural History Museum This is my first recommendation, because it is the last year to do it. The space is being repurposed, so do it before its too late!
There are definitely some other amazing places to go ice skating, such as Somerset house or even at Winter Wonderland (please see next suggestion)
2. Winter Wonderland I mean to state the obvious, this is the ultimate Christmas village. For the newbie, Winter Wonderland is essentially a Christmas carnival that is setup yearly in Hyde Park. IMO there is truly something for everyone here. Great for nights out with friends, a date, or even bring along the kiddos.. The food options are pretty amazing, think street food such as burger, fries, pizza and even some Bavarian style options. The truffle parmesan fries from Truffle Burger were a personal favorite. There are plenty of bar’s built throughout the park, and plenty of stands selling mulled wine and beer! There are also rides and some shopping to do for those less include to indulge in food and drink. This year there is a bit of a fee to enter, meaning you have to book ahead. Some restaurants within venue also require booking ahead, so check it out before heading over. HOT TIP: if you loathe crowds, I would strongly consider heading here on a weeknight, otherwise you will end up spending a lot of time on lines for beer and food, whilst sifting through a crowd.
3. Kew Gardens This requires booking waaaaay ahead if you want to go before Christmas. The light displays are very cool in the dark!
4. London Bridge Christmas Market I mean markets in general can have pretty Christmassy vibes… but this one is specifically fun because its right along the river and has little clumps of shops open as you walk. I would also say if you can avoid Saturday afternoons in December, it would be your best bet!
5. Covent Garden The area in general definitely has major Christmas feels. Tree, carolers, and a mini Christmas market that piggy backs off of the already established Covent Garden shops. Great place to grab a hot chocolate or mulled wine & maybe do some Christmas shopping!
Look out for my next post, where I will chat about the best lights and displays for Christmas in London!
What else have you been getting up to this holiday season?
