London's Museums

London is definitely not short in choices of museums, which bodes well for a city that you cannot always rely on the weather.  If you have an afternoon to spend in one of the galleries London has to offer, here is a bit of a guide to help you make that choice.  A special bonus is that every museum mentioned here is free of charge!  

Victoria and Albert is a gorgeous museum that celebrates creativity over the ages.  With more of a design focus you can expect to see galleries full of sculpture, fashion and other beautiful design elements.  Let alone the gorgeous building, there is a nice café and lunch space.  There is so much to explore here, you might need a second day!

The British Museum is for the history lover looking for pieces from all over the world.  Some notable collections, namely the Rosetta Stone, to look out for.  Take a look at the exhibits prior to plan and make the most of your time, as you could likely need multiple days to see everything. 

The National Gallery is made up of European masterpieces and many household names.  Think, artists like Picasso, Van Gough and so on.  This is a proper gallery that you could easily lose the time or yourself.  Be sure to make sure you are aware of all it has to offer as you could easily walk past a room with hidden gems!

The Tate Britain is your stop if you are solely interested in British art, displaying collections from the 16th century on.  There is quite the smattering of different mediums of art, so there will be something for everyone!

The Tate Modern is well of course, your stop if you are a lover of modern art.  Think colorful, limit pushing exhibits.  An amazing bonus is there is a lovely viewing deck that looks out directly onto the Thames as well as onto Millennium Bridge and St. Paul’s Cathedral.

The Royal Academy is run by artists for those seeking a unique experience in art.  Some well-known exhibits, mixed with up and coming artists’ makes this a rather diverse collection.  The building is also home to a fabulous restaurant – José  Pizzaro and some fabulous cafés.  There is definitely a reason to stop in!

Natural History Museum is a great option if you have young children touring with you, as this museum is interactive with loads of exhibits to see for all ages.  Science and nature are the biggest focuses of the museum.  If for nothing else come to check out the beauty of the architecture of the building and the iconic whale skeleton that is on display in the main hall. 

The Wallace Collection is outfitted with pieces from all over the world, spread out over a breathtaking home, the pieces are made up from everything including paintings and sculptures to furniture.  There is also a gorgeous café and restaurant to take a break from gallery hoping.
