How to pack when visiting London

London can be quite a confusing place to pack for as the weather can literally change on a dime.  The joke ‘if you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes’ definitely has some truth to it.  My suggestion would be layers for october through april and expect the unexpected.  Also, this heavily depends on the time of year you are visiting, so I would look check the weather!

Shoes - London is such a walking city. Bring comfortable shoes. Personally, I am completely unhappy the second my feet start to bother me.  I would suggest some sort of sneakers that can be slightly dressed up if need to be.  I would also bring a pair of boots, I choose Chelsea boots as they are versatile and can be comfortable if need be.  I’d skip heels or anything you cannot walk far in, unless you have a specific occasion.

Outerwear – I would definitely bring a winter jacket in winter as it is sneakily cold.  Spring and Autumn often require a bit of a lighter jacket, maybe opt for something waterproof.  I would also go for scarves as they can dress something up or be the extra warmth you might need as the sun start to set.  Summer can be very hot from my experience.  But I would still bring a light sweater or something you can throw on in a pinch.

Clothing - Denim or trousers would suit for any time of year, depending on your preference.  Skirts and dresses that are long and can be layered are always a great option.  I would bring some light t-shirts, sweaters and button up shirts that can be mixed and matched.  I would also carry a dressy outfit option as if you are eating in a nicer restaurant this would be needed.

Misc – Travel adapter, a bag/tote- likely your accommodations will not be close to everything you are doing during the day so you will likely be lugging around any items you will need during the day/ to hold any shopping.  I’d be remiss not to mention a small umbrella, though I NEVER carry one.  It does not rain as much as the reputation leads you to believe.

Overall, I would seek to look polished rather than overly comfortable in athleisure, as you can stand out as a tourist with these things.

Have the best time in London!
