A Beginner’s Guide to Safari:

If you have never been on a safari, there might be somethings that you have never thought about, or don’t really expect.  Here are a few things that I maybe didn’t realize or were not super obvious to me my first time

Wake up early – be prepared for super early mornings, some as early at 4am, as some of the best times to see the animals are before the sun gets to strong.

Plan meal times- think about the times you want to be out exploring and plan your meals accordingly, as you could be miles from your camp/ resort or another one you might want to eat at.

Binoculars – maybe not so obvious, but the animals might be far off in the distance, and you cannot exactly go off road right up to them.  Bring binoculars if you can!

Camera lens – similar to my previous thought, your iPhone might not cut it for this experience.  If you own, or can get your hands on some quality long lenses you will have amazing photos to look back on.

The sun is no joke – cover your arms and legs as much as you can if you are sensitive to the sun, or opt for being diligent about sunscreen!

Layers, layers, layers – you can experience drastically different temperatures from morning to night, make sure you are prepared for all sorts

Patience – some days there might be more driving and less seeing animals, but be aware that they are wild animals and not performers.

Water – I would carry water bottles with you and constantly be drinking as you can get super dry.
