Great Time of Year for Safari
Weather can have a major influence on any type of trip, so it is definitely something to be considered. Going on safari is no different, as weather directly impacts the animals. Therefore, planning your trip around what mother nature typically is doing, might actually give you an advantage. During dry months, visibility might be easier, versus looking for animals in tall grass and lush bush just after the rainy season. During drier times, animals will be forced to areas where there is water, essentially making it ‘easier’ to spot them. The dry season is around September, leading into the rainy season beginning in October, making September one of the better times to be there.
Against all advice, we took a trip in April, and to be honest, it was lovely! I personally liked this time, because it was never uncomfortably hot. Reaching temperatures in the 90s during the day, it was quite tolerable and dare I say, nice. Even some nights were hot, some were chilly, depending. But we had loads of sightings and luck with this time of year. The park was not overly swarmed with people, meaning you could drive for hours with just you and nature. Let’s be honest, if you have the chance no matter what time of year, you should take it!
So, when are you thinking of going?
