Guide to Ireland

Ireland will always hold a very special place in my heart.  It was the first European country I ever visited, and also one of the more significant trips I embarked on as a young adult.  Think rolling greens and a calmer way of life.

Typically, you can find a flight that is extremely reasonably priced and definitely doable for those of us on a budget.  Also, to note, one of the quickest flights for those of us flying from NY to Europe.

After visiting two major cities, Galway and Dublin, it’s clear that it’s never too soon for a return trip.

The Ireland Experience

Galway call on beer, live music, and food that warms your soul.  Some of the friendliest people on earth fill this quaint yet bustling ‘city.’  Indulge in beef stew, local pubs and embrace local life.  Some of my favorite spots are Sonny Molloy’s, Tig Coili, Kings Head, and the Quay’s Bar and Restaurant.  For a little tradition, pop into Thomas Dillon to purchase an original Claddagh Ring.

Stay at a cute bed a breakfast slightly outside of the city center.  You won’t mind the walk when you are waking up to a lovely homecooked breakfast. Personal favorite, Asgard House.

Don’t Miss It!

Lastly, for that picturesque moment of Ireland that you have been imagining, hop on the ferry and head to the Aran Islands, or book a bus tour to the Cliffs of Moher.  This might seem super touristy, and I mean it is…. But the cliffs are majestic and no photo will ever do them justice.  Definitely worth seeing in person!

Dublin, think more city than Galway.  For that super touristy experience check out the Guinness or Jameson factory. Pick your poison, see how it’s made.  I learned how to pour a proper pint at the Guinness factory when my ‘friend’ volunteered me for the demonstration.  Head to Temple Bar area for some buzzing night life.  If you can, check out an Irish dancing show and head to trinity college to see that library!
