Barcelona

Barcelona, one of the first cities I wanted to visit when thinking about Spain. There's always something exciting to explore or savor in this vibrant city. With its delightful weather and abundant sunshine throughout most of the year, it's hard not to be tempted to plan a trip to the heart of Catalonia.  Very quickly you will find yourself on La Rambla, a buzzing street with everything happening.  However, the true beauty lies in the lesser-known corners, down quaint alleyways, and on the roads less traveled. Make sure you keep your eyes and mind open to a bit of wandering!

To See

La Sagrada Familia | The beautiful and unfinished basilica designed by Gaudi, that celebrates Gothic revival and Art Nouveau / modernist architecture.  The building itself is striking, but the real magic happens when you go inside.  The rainbow stained glass makes the most beautiful experience possible with rainbows reflecting every which way.  I booked for just before sunset and it really added something to the way the light came in! I would book you preferable time slot ahead of time as it can end up booking out!

La Rambla | This beautiful tree lined street has so much to offer, from shops, people, entertainment and more. The road is vibrant, and definitely worth a stroll.

Park Guell | A gorgeous green park with a great view of Barcelona, featuring creations from Gaudi throughout. You might want to consider buying your ticket to this park ahead of time.

Gothic Quarter | One of my favorite neighbourhoods in Barcelona, due to the nature of the gothic architecture. For me when I am in Europe, I am craving this ultra old, grand look of buildings and streets.  For me, I just enjoy wandering in this area!

Montjuic Castle | Make a trip out of it and take the cable car to the top, for a bit of excitement as well as a view! An old military fortress, high above the city, proving access to a bit of history, accompanied by some beautiful views of Barcelona.

Casa Batllo | Yet another mark of Gaudi on the city.  A chance to see the world of Gaudi in a full experience!

Mercat de la Boqueria | famous market in Barcelona, where you can actually get lost roaming the aisles.  You can find loads of fresh produce and goodies here, till your hearts content.

To Eat

Mont Bar | I was recommended this place myself, and have passed the suggestion onto so many friends looking for a bit of gastronomy with a Spanish twist.  A very delicious meal from start to finish, no notes.

Tapas 24 Diputacio | When you are here really dive into the tapas experience.  This place has  fun twist on a lot of the classics!

Bo de B | Sandwich shop that has clearly spread the word about themselves (check out the line of people waiting).  Stop by for a fast casual lunch!

To Stay

Eixample | if you are choosing a neighborhood over a hotel or specific place to stay, my favorite is Eixample.  The neighborhood is super lively, boasting tons of bars and restaurants to choose from.  There is also fabulous shopping! For everything I had on my itinerary this was really well located and accessible.

What are some of your favorite spots in Barcelona? What did I miss?
