Riviera Maya/ Tulum, Mexico

This was my first time in Mexico, and boy did it not disappoint.  Getting away during the grey days of winter, to a super sunny place is something that is an instant high and the ultimate cure for any seasonal depression.

To be honest, I have never really looked into going to Mexico, as I thought I would start doing the more relaxing trips as I got a bit older and couldn’t city hop.  Turns out I like it just as much!  Therefore, Riviera Maya was somewhat chosen for me, and very happy about that.  What I didn’t realize, is how far that is from the Cancun airport, so you must prearrange a car service of some sort to get from the airport to your hotel, but likely the hotel can do that for you.

Amid all of the relaxing you will be doing make sure you get to some cenotes.  Cenotes are natural sinkholes what have formed, which end up leaving behind a bit of a beautiful oasis.  We headed to Tulum for this, which was possibly my favorite part.  Riviera Maya and Tulum are right next to each other, but with more of a resort vibe in Riviera Maya, Tulum felt like the more ‘untouched’ really cool cousin to this area.  Everything felt really peaceful and beautiful.  If you are looking for a reason to get out of your resort this is it! I would also strongly suggest going out to eat or shop in Tulum if you have the chance, as everything looked really cute!

I don’t often do the types of trips where I stay within the walls of the resort the whole time, but apart from the cenotes and one evening clubbing in Playa del Carmen, we didn’t leave the resort.  I actually really enjoyed just unwinding and having no real schedule or plans for a couple of days. I do want to go back to Tulum and not stay in a resort, but more of a boutique hotel or house, really looking forward to my next visit.

Where should we be going in Mexico?
